Start with the landscape around the address
Property screening brings together the returned landscape susceptibility ranking and available measurements of nearby fuels. Where supported, fire history and longer-term climate context add another perspective. Each finding should be read at the coverage and scale of its source.
The assessed point identifies where the reading applies. Surrounding fuel measurements help explain the setting; they do not establish the building’s materials, maintenance, defensible space or resistance to embers.
Keep daily fire weather in its own context
The free provincial map shows daily fire-weather conditions on a 5 km grid. It compares conditions within the published issue, using forecast weather and the Canadian Fire Weather Index. The displayed scoring time tells you when those scores were calculated.
A property’s landscape can stay similar while the weather changes. Use the property assessment to understand the surroundings and the map to understand the current regional context. Neither is a prediction that a fire will ignite.
Turn a finding into a useful follow-up
For a property lender or insurer, a stronger landscape signal can help prioritize files for more detailed review. The follow-up may involve confirming the location, checking site information and commissioning an appropriate property-level assessment.
The screening does not inspect a structure or estimate its probability of ignition, expected loss or insurance premium. Building-specific mitigation and emergency decisions require the relevant local information and qualified assessment.
